The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency, Moussa Faki Mahamat arrived Nigeria on Wednesday 24th October 2018.
- FIFA ranking: Nigeria move by 4 spots, now placed 44th [+]
In the ranking table published on the website of the world football governing body on Thursday, Nigeria garnered 1431 points as against 1415 it had in September. The movement had now placed Nigeria as the third in Africa behind Tunisia and Senegal. Tunisia is ranked 22nd in the world and Senegal 25th. On the global scene, Belgium are now ranked world number one, ahead of France with the narrowest of margin-just one point in the new FIFA/Coca-Cola World RANKING PUBLISHED TODAY. The Belgians have 1733 points to France’s 1732 points.
- Norway to increase visa issuance to Nigeria [+]
The Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens-Petter Kjemprud, on Monday disclosed the plan by the Embassy to increase visas issuance to Nigerians. The Ambassador expressed optimism that the issuance of more visas to Nigerians would promote people-to people relationships, trade, investment opportunities and other exchanges between both countries.
- FG proposes n8.73tr for 2019 budget [+]
The Federal Government has proposed N8.73tr for next year’s fiscal calendar, N400bn lower than that of this year. According to the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma said Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for 2019 to 2021 has been approved by the council and that it would soon be submitted to the National Assembly for further consideration.
- UN expresses grave concern over borno, kaduna attacks [+]
The United Nations had expressed grave concern over reports of renewed killings by the armed insurgent group, Boko Haram in Borno State. A statement by UN Resident Cordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, stated that the attacks, if unchecked, may reverse the gains made in protecting lives in the Northeast. The UN Chief in Nigeria also expressed sadness over the communal clashes in Kasuwan Magani area, South of Kaduna State, which claimed scores of lives and injured many.

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, said the Nigerian Government had issued the first Gold refining Licence to Kian Smith Limited, to improve the country’s economy. Mr. Udoma disclosed this while speaking at the 24th Nigerian Economic Summit, NES24, in Abuja on Monday.

President Muhammadu Buhari, in his capacity as chairman, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, has sent a Special Envoy to Mali to interface in the political situation in the country. The delegation which was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama and President of the ECOWAS Commission Jean-Claude Kassi Brou met with major stakeholders ahead of the country parliamentary election.

The Defence Headquarters responded to Amnesty International (AI) report in which the group alleged that the Nigerian Military and the Police engaged in horrific use of excessive force that led to the killing of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shiites. Brigadier General John Agim, Acting Director Defence Information, in a statement on Thursday accused AI of consistently fabricating lies and giving negative narrative of issues related to Nigeria’s National Security and its Military.
