AEDC Commissions N200m Power Cable Fault Detector, Others

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has commissioned N200 million worth of power equipment including underground cable fault detectors and network monitoring cameras.

The Managing Director, Engr. Ernest Mupwaya during the commissioning in Abuja yesterday said the launch of the equipment was part of the re-engineering process to improve services to electricity customers.

He noted that the cable fault detector marks a milestone of improved services because the field staff can now use it to detect faults within 30 minutes rather spending days as it was before to trace faults in the mostly underground cables within the Abuja city centre.

He said, “We have modified 127 processes so that we can be more effective and efficient to our customers,” adding that staff have been trained on the use of the equipment he valued at N200m.

Engr. Mupwaya also noted that the firm has invested much in software application to improving the billing system, customers’ database, revenue collection and the monitoring of network maintenance. “You will start seeing more accurate bills and effective bill delivery because we now have effective monitoring tools,” Mupwaya said.

In his remarks, Managing Director of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Engr. Peter Ewesor said it was a good move by the Distribution Company (DisCo) saying it will reduce the time spent in electricity fault clearing.
